On behalf of the community of Ward 21 in Stellenbosch Municipality – including Jamestown, Paradyskloof, Brandwacht-aan-Rivier, Blaauwklippen, De Zalze, Mountainview, Techno Park and surrounding areas – the Democratic Alliance (DA) and all signatories to this petition hereby demand that:

  1. The National Minister of Police publicly commit to opening a satellite police station to serve and protect the lives and property of the people of Ward 21. Crime is a growing problem in the area and as the population of Ward 21 grows, the need for a satellite police station has become urgent. More resources for Ward 21 will also alleviate the pressure on SAPS, which will make the entire Stellenbosch municipal area safer.
  2. In order for a SAPS satellite police station in Ward 21 to become a reality, we demand that the National Assembly’s ad hoc committee on petitions summon the Minister of Police to a special meeting to present detailed plans and timelines for the construction and resourcing of a satellite police station to serve Ward 21 and surrounding areas.
  3. We further request that the national Minister of Police also devolves additional policing powers and resources to the Western Cape Government and Stellenbosch Municipality. The national ANC government has failed in the fight against crime, so it is now time to devolve more powers and resources to local DA governments to protect our lives and property.
