Implement the DA's motion to maintain water infrastructure now

“Maintain water infrastructure now”

We, the undersigned residents of Govan Mbeki Local Municipality call on the Municipal Manager, Mr. Simon Mndebele to deal with the issues which are affecting our water supply. Water is life, and the constant 40% water reductions due to the Rand Water debt is unacceptable as we go without water for prolonged periods. Presently we are losing 32.29% of our water that is distributed and this is adding to the Rand Water debt. Given this, we demand that the Municipal Manager:

  1. Implement the DA’s motion regarding the maintenance of water infrastructure which was adopted in council on the 29th of August 2019.
  2. Table a progress report on the implementation of the turn-around strategy aimed at water leaks.
  3. Conduct a water meter and reservoir audit and attend leaky pipes, taps and broken meters.
