PETITION TO BUFFALO CITY METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY (BCMM) INFRASTRUCTURE DIRECTORATE REGARDING LOW WATER PRESSURE IN THE VINCENT AREA

The DA urgently requests action for the residents in Vincent, Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, with the ongoing issue of low water pressure in our area.

This matter was identified as a priority in the Ward 18 Integrated Development Plan (IDP), yet despite its inclusion, there has been no meaningful resolution. Many households, businesses, and essential services continue to struggle with inadequate water pressure, which:

  • Affects daily activities such as bathing, cooking, and cleaning.
  • Puts additional strain on businesses, particularly those that rely on water for operations.
  • Raises serious concerns regarding fire safety, as low water pressure can compromise emergency response efforts.
  • Indicates potential infrastructure failures or lack of investment in maintenance and upgrades.

We urge BCMM to take the following actions:

  • Provide an immediate update on the status of water infrastructure improvements in Vincent.
  • Conduct a technical assessment to identify the root cause of the low pressure and share the findings with the community.
  • Implement urgent short-term relief measures to stabilize water pressure for affected households and businesses.
  • Commit to a timeline for permanent infrastructure upgrades to address this issue sustainably.
  • We request a formal response from BCMM within 30 days, outlining a clear plan of action. Failure to address this matter will leave residents with no choice but to escalate the issue further.

This petition will be submitted to the Speaker and City Manager of BCMM.
