Stop Wasteful Name Changes - Sign the Petition Now!
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Johannesburg is launching a petition to stop the city’s plan to rename Sandton Drive as Leila Khaled Drive. This renaming is part of a costly vanity project, and sham public consultation process.
Leila Khaled was the first woman involved in a series of aeroplane hijackings.
The City’s MMC of Community Development, Kabelo Gwamanda (who is now facing criminal charges for fraud on another matter) admitted that the decision had already been made, despite the so-called public input.
In 2018, we successfully stopped this motion and others like it, including the attempt to remove the Ghandi statue.
The DA is strongly opposed to the ANC’s close ties with rogue regimes and terror groups worldwide.
The DA in Johannesburg calls for:
- An independent audit of the signatures collected by Kabelo Gwamanda and the Mayor.
- An immediate stop to the renaming process.
- Proper consultation with affected businesses and international partners.
- Recognition of over 5,000 objections from impacted residents and businesses.
We need to make sure public money is spent on improving services, not on unnecessary projects.
Sign the petition today and help us hold the City of Johannesburg accountable!
