We cannot allow the coalition of corruption to steal NMB
For more than 20 years, the people of Nelson Mandela Bay were side-lined whilst their government dug into the public purse and put politicians and those with connections first.
It was hopeless. Corruption was rampant and services were non-existent.
But when the 2016 elections came around, the people had had enough! They united and voted the ANC out of power, putting a DA-led coalition in charge of the city.
Within two years, the fleet of busses that used to sit in an exposed storage facility, with broken windows and damaged tyres, was fixed and put on the road for commuters.
Mayor Athol Trollip’s coalition government uncovered hundreds of millions of rands in ANC-corruption and used the tax money for service delivery. The DA mayor had put Nelson Mandela Bay in its best financial position in a decade!
But not everyone is trying to save Nelson Mandela Bay.
On Tuesday, 26 August, the ANC, EFF, and UDM came together to try and remove the mayor so that they could get their hands on the public purse again. They are determined to fill their own pockets and their party coffers before the 2019 elections.
By forming a corrupt coalition, they bent the rules in council so that the city manager was denied the chance to preside over a vote, and illegally elected a new speaker and removed Athol Trollip as mayor.
A coalition government dedicated to working together to cut corruption, create jobs and deliver services, was kicked out…
