Petition to fight for a new High School in Tsitsikamma

Sign the DA’s petition for a new High School in Tsitsikamma. Converting a primary school into a high school has been tried twice before, and both attempts have been unsuccessful. This is just another shortcut and will only cause our already overcrowded primary schools to become further overburdened. The communities in the Tsitsikamma area have been asking for a high school since the dawn of democracy. Enough is enough!

The communities in the Tsitsikamma area have been asking for a high school since the dawn of our democracy, which is now 30 years of inaction from national government.

Sign the DA’s petition now to demand action from the Department of Education.

We condemn the closure of Tsitsikamma Primary School during the first week of the 2024 academic year. The Department of Education acted in an unrestrained and autocratic manner in ignoring the School Governing Body of Tsitsikamma Primary School and the larger community of Tsitsikamma, who wants a new and proper high school, not another makeshift high school.

The community of Tsitsikamma (Clarkson, Woodlands, Witelsbos, Koomansbos, Sanddrift, Thornham, Stormsriver, Coldstream) expressed the need for a high school since the early 1990’s as the only available and accessible schools (Plettenberg Bay, Humansdorp Senior Secondary School) were more than 70km and 80km respectively away from home. Over the last 30 years, no real progress has been made to realize this dream.

Our community deserves better! Sign the DA’s petition now.

The SGB made it clear that whatever the department decided, Tsitsikamma Primary School should remain a Primary School and highlighted that enough land is available to put up mobile classes for the high school learners.

The Department has decided to steamroll this decision through and now wants to decide for Tsitsikamma Primary School, the parents, and the larger community.

We need to send a clear message to the Department of Education that we deserve to have the children of Tsitsikamma attend a high school in Tsitsikamma, and to preserve the primary schools that we have.

It is time for them to listen to us and not decide for us! Sign the DA’s petition now.
