Open Garden Route beaches now!
Our economy is driven by enjoying nature and the open air! Jobs are created for our communities and entrepreneurs through services that are integrally linked with the beaches.
We call on National Government to open the Garden Route Beaches so that our people can enjoy the break they deserve in a healthy and safe way!
We, the residents and holiday makers of the Garden Route, demand that our beaches be opened because:
- The blunt approach to lockdown the beaches is not necessary
- Approximately 35% of the region’s annual income is generated through this time of year and will be lost to the local economy threatening many jobs.
- Seasonal Workers will lose income that sustain them during the upcoming year.
- The fresh air of the beaches is what we want people to enjoy, rather than congested spaces.
- Proper steps can be taken to ensure health and safety guidelines are followed so that those who attend are safe.
- The right balance has been achieved in this case and this intervention needs to be reconsidered.
- Law enforcement can be used much more effectively where they are needed in these festive season times.
- Garden Route beaches aren’t as crowded as other beaches over the country which do remain open.
