Object against proposed name changes within Tzaneen municipality

Significant towns and places within the Tzaneen Municipality are the latest victims of the ANC's politically motivated and wasteful name changing process. We cannot allow the national government to continue wasting money while so many South Africans suffer in poverty. Support the DA's mission and sign this petition now!

The Tzaneen municipality has been identified as the latest victim of the ANC’s politically motivated name changing process. Support the DA’s mission to stop this wasteful expenditure.

We cannot allow national government to continue wasting money while so many South Africans suffer in poverty.

The towns and places that will be affected include: Tzaneen and Tzaneen Dam, Haenertsburg, Debegeni Falls, Houtbosdorp, Ebenezer Dam, Veekraal, Magoebaskloof Dam and the area around Makgoebaskloof Hotel, the R71 road and Dannie Joubert Street.

We hereby object against the proposed name changes based on the following:

History: While redress is crucial, Haenertsburg  and Tzaneen were not established through a war or any displacement of local people.

Economical reasons: At a time when unemployment is sky-high, the name change will be an expensive exercise and will cause great uncertainty in global markets. The name Tzaneen is synonymous with avocado, citrus and tropical fruit and nuts exports, which are the number one creator of employment in the area.

Tourism: Haenertsburg has created a well-known brand in the tourism industry, which is greatly boosted by well-known events such as the yearly Spring Fair and the Food and Wine Festival which in turn boosts the local economy.

Support the DA’s mission and sign this petition now!

The petition will be submitted to the Name Change Committee, the parliamentary petitions committee as well as to the Limpopo Provincial Geographical Names Committee.
