The open spaces, serenity and fresh air provide a unique natural ecosystem within the surrounding urban environment. The Reserve serves as a green lung for the community, hosting hikers, birdwatchers, and other nature enthusiasts on a daily basis.
The ANC-run eThekwini metro and KZN province has, for decades, allowed developers to systematically grab play lots, open spaces and protected areas for housing development. This cannot continue – and the DA will at each turn oppose such ludicrous developmental plans. The destruction of complex biodiversity and the destabilisation of a protected area cannot be tolerated.
Profit must not trump the protection of our natural heritage. We cannot allow big business and the provincial government to act without public participation or consciousness.
