The Democratic Alliance (DA) is advocating for residents affected by the ongoing water outages from Hursthill 1, Hursthill 2, and Alexandra Reservoirs. We are deeply concerned about the rejection of our motion aimed at addressing these disruptions.
The MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services, Jack Sekwaila, dismissed the DA’s proposals by saying “we should not waste council time” – if fighting for the Residents of Johannesburg’s interests is viewed as a waste of time, the MMC will be unpleasantly surprised by how much time we can “waste”.
Our requests are simple yet urgent:
- Immediate Action: We urge the Speaker’s Office to reconsider our motion, including an internal audit of water meters and valves.
- Transparent Communication: We demand clear updates from Mayor Dada Morero and MMC Jack Sekwaila on the actions being taken to resolve the water crises.
- Accountability: We call for accountability from Mayor Morero, MMC Sekwaila, and all stakeholders involved in water management in Johannesburg.
