If a person with a moral, constitutional, and legal duty of care denies a child drinking water, hygiene, and cooked food, that person would be guilty of child abuse and face the full might of the law.
Yet when Rand Water, bearing a moral, constitutional, and legal duty of care, denies the children of Gauteng, especially those most vulnerable and in harrowing circumstances, access to drinking water, water to bathe in, and the vital nutrition of washed and cooked food, no-one is held accountable. No answers. No solutions. Just children left thirsty, dirty, and hungry.

We call on Rand Water to:
- Urgently draw up and publish a peer-reviewed concrete 3 year plan to fix, and subsequently maintain, all water and electrical infrastructure Rand Water is responsible for;
- Communicate on a weekly basis all progress on the implementation of this plan;
- Ensure effective, accessible, consistent, and accurate communication to the public regarding water supply issues within 30 minutes of such issues arising; and
- Require its corporate leadership to regularly and physically meet with communities affected by Rand Water’s supply failures and visit sites of such failure.
This cannot be allowed to continue. This abuse must end. Rand Water cannot continue failing Gauteng’s children.
