Petition to Re-Evaluate the Exorbitant Proposed Tariff Increases for the 2025/26 FY in the City of Ekurhuleni

With the deadline for the approval of the 2025/26 Budget looming, the Democratic Alliance (DA) is concerned about the exorbitant proposed tariff increases on our already financially overburdened residents.

The ANC-EFF-ActionSA Coalition have driven Ekurhuleni into a financial crisis and want more of your hard-earned money to keep funding failing service delivery and fund a massive R1.9 billion wage bill increase – this while everyone is suffering under the cost-of-living crisis!

This is how the ANC-EFF-ActionSA Coalition intend to get more of your money through the following proposed tariff increases:

– Water – 17% increase

– Electricity – 11% – 12.74% increase

– Sanitation – 10% increase

– Refuse Removal – 6% increase

We, the residents of the City of Ekurhuleni, therefore; petition the MMC for Finance, Ald. Jongizizwe Dlabathi, to re-evaluate the excessively high tariff increases.
