Nieu-Bethesda (proposed change to Kwa Noheleni) has been identified as the latest victim of the random, flawed and politically motivated geographical name changing processes. Nieu-Bethesda (proposed change to Kwa Noheleni) has been identified as the latest victim of the ANC’s politically motivated name changing processes.
Based on the applications of only two people, who remain unidentified, four historical towns, with names that do not meet the minimum criteria for name changes are set to be renamed.
In addition, the proposed names for each town do not meet the criteria stipulated to in the South African Geographical Name Changes Handbook, which should have automatically halted the process. It is concerning that the Eastern Cape Geographical Name Changes have proceeded with a name change process which by their own standards are unsuitable.
This petition will be delivered to the Portfolio Committee on Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture at both the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature and at National Parliament in order to facilitate the cessation of this process in its entirety. The residents of Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality DO NOT want to change the names of our towns.
National government is wasting money on politically motivated name changes to win votes, while the people living in these communities suffer without basic services.
