Belhar Demands Safety: 17-Year Wait for a Proper Police Station Must End Now!
South African citizens are living in fear. Prisoners in their own homes as gangsterism and criminal activities torment communities on the Cape Flats.
The South African Police Service is a national government competency with the constitutional mandated to:
1) Prevent, combat and investigate crime.
2) Maintain public order.
3) Protect and secure the inhabitants of the Republic and their property.4) Uphold and enforce the law.
The petition calls on the National Minister of Police, Minister Senzo Mchunu, to honour this constitutional mandate and provide adequate police resources to the community of Belhar with the establishment of a police station on Erf 27040 Bellville (open field in St. Vincent Drive)
Currently, police services are being rendered out of a house for the past 17 years. The house is unsuitable for many reasons such as: serious occupational health and safety violations; condemned holding cells; inadequate office space for staff; no privacy for witness statement taking; inadequate bathroom facilities for both staff and the public; congested waiting area; to name but a few.

The community has been promised a new police station for many years. It is time for national government, under the new Government of National Unity, to deliver on this promise.
Criminals do not differentiate between race, gender, religion or political affiliation when they rob residents at gunpoint, sell them drugs, or commit murder.
We, therefore, hope every resident will unite in this common cause and SIGN THIS PETITION.
